When Trust and Responsibility are broken

Please read!

Finding My Way Back To Myself

I write this here instead of my rescue blog because I will be writing about Trust and Responsibility, both of which apply to my mental health blog AND my animal rescue blog.

I volunteer for animal rescue, namely dogs. I have experienced two rescues who have turned what is supposed to be a positive experience into a breaking of trust and responsibility.

When rescue organizations take on dogs, as part of their agreement, regardless if the animal needs medication, spay/neuter/ or surgery, it is the responsibility of the rescue to cover those expenses. Right now a rescue I helped a dog named Zeus receive surgery by fundraising, has closed shop and is no longer taking responsibility for the expenses for Zeus’ surgery or to the spay as well as behavioral issues of another dog I have been made aware of. Phone calls, emails, and text messages have been sent without…

November is Adopt a Senior Month

Reposting here!

Finding My Way Back To Myself

For me, I love having an older dog. Maybe its because they are so often forgotten in the over populated shelters, or perhaps it is because they need love and attention, like I do. Either way you look at it, as much as I love puppies, they are a lot like having a toddler and honestly I don’t have the energy all the time to be watching for every little thing they can and will get into.

Below is a list of reasons why it is an excellent idea to adopt a senior dog.

10 Great Reasons to Open Your Heart to a Senior Pet

  1. Older dogs have manners. Unlike puppies, many grown-up dogs have spent years living with a family and being socialized to life with humans.

They may have received obedience training and respond to commands like Sit, Stay, and Down.

Many are house trained and it takes…

Do you have a dog who thinks they are alpha?

We do, and her name is Lucy. Lucy is a rat terrier mix and is approximately 9 years old. I say approximately because she is a rescue and we can only go by the paperwork provided.

For a few months now Lucy goes through periods where she would pee our bed. We have flipped our mattress, used products to disinfect, numerous laundry washings etc. Nothing seemed to be helping.

We started to break down what she could be feeling threatened by. One thing that came to mind is that our 12 year old chi mix who we rescued a year ago, we have had to feed her in a different room because Lucy would bully her for her food. That place we feed her is in our bedroom.

The other thing we noticed is she dictates when she will go outside when it rains; then she won’t move if you go to walk. Last night I, with coaxing, was able to get her to walk to a building not far from our home that is grassy and she did her business. Then this morning, in the rain, again she wouldn’t walking willingly so I lifted her up and put her on the grass. She stood there and was prepared to not move, I had to coax her to do so, but she did go in the end.

So today is a new day, and we carry on, persistence is key. LoveYourPet

Car Accidents and Animals

Today about 2pm PST, a large “bang” could be heard from our home. I said to my spouse that didn’t sound good. Both of us are ones who believe in helping others so he went to see what happened. When he came back he told me “its a bad one” to bring blankets and the first aid kit. I said ok, be right there.

I arrive on he scene and see 3 vehicles. One is a grey dodge 2500 truck flipped on its side, the other is a Blue Dodge Caravan and the other at best guest was a Green Ford Focus.

I crossed the street and in doing so, I saw a man, in my eyes deceased and to the right of me a tall gentlemen holding what appeared to be his dog, a Pomeranian. He was in shock, unaware of how this accident came to be. I could see lacerations on his head, his dog I was able to leash and he and I stayed with the man til he was taken by ambulance.

The Blue Dodge Caravan had 3 dogs in it. They had been returning from doing rehabilitation work with others. They were loose in the car. Once everything had been assessed, my spouse leashed them up and we had them temporarily with someone else til we could safely get them altogether with me. We put the chihuahua in a crate as he/she was terrified.

It took a bit of time, rain coming down very hard, soaked through clothing, all that I could think of making sure these animals were safe. There are no people who can make sure they are safe, especially if they are the victims in the scene of a car accident. Or, like one of the individuals, deceased.

Kennels save lives, but so do bystanders who take a chance and offer to help. We took a chance and our rescue and volunteer experience really helped today.

Will be lighting a candle for the man who died today in front of our house in a 3 car t-boned accident. Thanks to Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) for assisting in taking the 3 dogs who need temporary homes til their families can be notified.

To the innocent we would safe you again!

Extensions

Fundraising for your cause is very hard work. Sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t. I’ve had to extend Tika’s medical fundraiser because her cause has come to a standstill. I am at a loss as to what to do. All I know is she is worth fighting for, she is a senior, but she has an incredible liveliness about her when she doesn’t feel miserable.

I don’t like asking for donations, I, like many pet owners want to protect and raise our loved ones on our own. I see the causes out there, I realize Tika is no different than anyone else, yet how do I give in and say “sorry sweetheart, mommy failed?”

She came from a life that was not kind to her, then she was loved for many years, when her time was no longer with that person, I became blessed to have her in my life. She deserves the best, she deserves the ability to eat any and all foods presented to her, not restrictions to soft foods. She has troubles with bones, she has troubles with any treats and she has trouble with dried meat treats (I dry liver for her as a treat).

I’ve given an extension, I’ve explained who and why I’m doing this fundraiser. All I ask is you find it within yourself to donate and share her cause.

Thank you so much.

Returning Kindness

I have followed this woman for about 2 years now. No not in a stalking way, she posted a page on her Jack Russell Sparky and as I have 3 Jack Russell Terriers, I was instantly hooked. I however had no idea of the horrific dog biting and trauma that Sparky endured and survived. To read more about Sparky and his page

Gradually her page continued to grow in likes and comments. She has endured many negative comments, trolls and spammers. Yet, for her all she has wanted to do is to help animals. Well its time to give back (in my opinion).

Nessa has created what we call a Ribbon Tree in her home town of Ireland. Those that wanted to have a ribbon hung in the memory of their pet, just wrote your pet’s name down on Sparky’s wall and now I have a few hung in memory of my pets who have passed on to the bridge. She has created tokens, and shirts at times for fundraising events.

A You Caring page created by Friends of Sparky recently to help raise funds to cover vet expenses as well as day to day expenses as Nessa is going to be recovering for quite sometime.

Its important to give back to your community and in a situation like this, is there any better time?

Answering YOUR Questions about Tika

For those that have asked, 2nd opinion inquiries have been done. Some as far as 45 minutes to an hour away. Thank you for your suggestions and tips to help Tika. In the meantime we still need to continue our fundraising to help her get her dental surgery. So I ask of you to donate and if you can’t please share, I’m not giving up on her.
